New Year, More You In 2 (Weeks)! #1

Welcome friends! Time to tear down that wall!

First, I hope you had a safe and wonderful holiday and new year. Second, fear not, the subject above has nothing to do with politics. It's all about intimacy.

For today's challenge (and for most of it), we're starting out slow and very easy! Because

A) that ensures you come back tomorrow and

B) we learn best when we do things in small doses.

BUT, before you do anything, take a screenshot or copy and paste your current bio somewhere safe so you can compare the finished product once this challenge is done. Because we're making micro changes each day, I want you to fully comprehend the dramatic effect when it's over.

Go on. I'll wait.

First person is your friend

One of the best ways to connect to your audience is not by talking AT them, but by talking to them. We're trying to emulate a conversation. And I don't know about you, but when I have a conversation with someone I don't refer to myself in the third person.

When you have a bio on your website or on LinkedIn that refers to you by your name, as opposed to using "I", this immediately puts up a wall between you and them.

When you say "I" it creates intimacy. Readers feel like you're introducing yourself to them and it gives them a sense of you as a person, not a bio. First person is conversational. Third person is formal and creates distance.

Go introduce yourself

For challenge #1, all you're going to do is change your bio from referring to yourself by your name to referring to yourself as I.

It's transformative. I promise.

That's it.

Easy peasy.

See you tomorrow.

And if your bio is already in the first person...
