My idol, Brené Brown, often talks about the idea of fitting in vs. belonging. She says, “Fitting in is about...becoming who you need to be to be accepted. Belonging...doesn’t require us to change who we are; it requires us to be who we are.”
Chills. Sadly, I can't take credit for this quote or the idea to use it when talking about my work. But that's why I love the genius of Julie Brown who invited me onto her This Sh!t Works podcast to talk about Personality Branding.
Julie and I instantly hit it off because we're both 100000% ourselves in business. There was also talk of turtle farts but you'll have to listen to hear more. And of course cursing. Because we both love it and just look at the name of this show.
But we also bonded because neither of us started here. We've both evolved into ourselves and now get the clients who like us, want to work with us and are willing to pay what we ask because they see our value.
And as Julie said in her recent newsletter promoting the episode, "Whether it’s your next networking event, your own business, or at your workplace: If you ditch the idea of what you think “professional” looks like and just show up as yourself you’re going to be able to make true connections."
I hope you will give this episode a listen. I promise you will both laugh and learn and at the end, Julie even conjures up the Personality Brand cocktail. I mean, could I love her more?
